Harry Harrison, quantity surveyor

After leaving Castleford Academy, I’m now an apprentice quantity surveyor working on Kier’s Don Valley project in Sheffield.

A typical day on site for me includes ensuring wage totals are correct and making sure there are no double bookings when it comes to the master project plan. I’m really enjoying the apprenticeship. I think it’s the best way to excel in life. In the longer term I’m hoping to become a fully-qualified quantity surveyor. Getting an apprenticeship is all you want.

You learn more than you would on a full-time college course - it’s just a case of finding the right one at the right company.
