Kier Stoke apprentices help important community project - Tuesday update
There was a great boost for our apprentices on day two of the refurb when England and Stoke City FC goalkeeper Jack Butland came down to the site to see how work is progressing.
Jack had a go at cutting some wooden battens for the fixing of the units and drilling out some handles.
He talked to the apprentices about his time working on a building site with his dad’s company, and commented how good it was to see the Stoke City FC Community Trust working with Kier to help Stoke Minster - especially as it’s where Stoke City FC legend Stanley Matthews is laid to rest.
Work is progressing well, with the new raised flooring now down and new units and work tops constructed and placed in ready for fitting.
Kier Stoke joinery apprentice Jack Rowley, who is a Stoke City season ticket holder, commented: “I’m really happy to be here this week. We’ve been learning a lot both at college and on the job at Kier Stoke and it’s good to be able to use and develop those skills on a real project that will help people. I’ve been a fan of Stoke City since I was four years old so it was absolutely brilliant to meet Jack Butland and have him take an interest in what we’re doing here – it really spurred us on.”
